~ PASTORAL LETTER ~

 

We’ve reached an intersection in the road on our journey of exploration. In January of this year we went from being a 3-Church community from two different denominations to a 2-church Presbyterian community venturing into merger. We’ve already enacted and joined many of our respective committees and our two sessions; we’ve gotten to know one another through social, educational and mission endeavors; we’ve shared in worship by rotating monthly; and we’ve made plans for our youth to share communicant classes beginning this month.

 

It is time to decide….and make our relationship more permanent with a new name, and a vision around which we create a new way of being faithful to God’s calling. You’ve each been given an opportunity to select the name of the new church. And through many conversations and work, the sessions have shared with you the Vision for the New Church. With that vision our sessions and committees will be delving into how to make that vision come alive through ministry and mission.

 

You should already have in your hands a letter from our Joint Clerks of Session announcing what will be voted upon and other necessary information. “Fireside Chats” at West, and “Poolside Chats” at First will provide discussion opportunities for each congregation (separately). Please join in these conversations with your session members.

 

A meal-time prayer came to mind recently, “Bless us, O Lord, and these your gifts, which we are about to receive from your bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.” It does seem to me that by coming together over this past year we’ve been sharing in a meal that God has prepared for us, one that will satisfy and nurture our communities and those whom we are called to serve.
